There was an amazing report in the Journal of the American Medical Association that made the news last week. Interviews of surgeons reported that diabetes improved in 88% of patients who undergo gastric bypass surgery and almost disappeared in 77%. The next sentence in the article is the most amazing: “Doctors don’t know yet why the weight loss surgery cures diabetes.” After I stopped laughing…

There’s irony in the massive media campaign for the cholesterol lowering drug Lipitor that stars Dr. Robert Jarvik, inventor of the artificial heart. He proudly states he takes Lipitor, a cholesterol lowering drug. Could he someday be a candidate for his own invention? Has he not seen the studies that prove Lipitor contributes to heart failure? Geez! Where did this guy get his nutritional training?

Reductions in the risk of cancer because of Vitamin D supplementation has been all over the news the last couple of weeks. This is just another study to add to many others that have confirmed to holistic physicians the benefits of this special vitamin in preventing colon, prostate and breast cancers (others also) as well as autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s Disease, all forms of colitis and insulin dependent diabetes mellitus….and not to mention, prevention of osteoporosis. If you’re not taking Vitamin D…you should be.
